Healthy habits during cold and flu season

Updated: Jun 1, 2020

Everyday healthy habits can prevent the spread of germs and viruses and are especially important to practice, and are top of mind because of flu season and the coronavirus.

In order to keep you and your families healthy and protected, our colleagues at the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourage these healthy habits:

  • Stay home when you are sick.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid close contact including hand shaking and fist bumps with people who are sick.

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces including your desktop, keyboard, mouse, cell phone and pens. This also includes publicly accessible spaces and resources, including countertops, door handles, and other shared workstations, etc.

These practices can help prevent the spread of many viruses. Check out the news release about coronavirus with helpful links.

Your safety and health remain a top priority, and we will send periodic updates as additional information becomes available.
